Eric Pung
My name is Eric Pung. I live in Denver, Colorado and I am just finishing up my first year of college at the University of Colorado Denver. I am aiming to get my B.F.A. in Visual Arts focusing on 3D animation. I love and adore classical 2D animation as well. My favorite movie of all time is Beauty and the Beast. Along with digital visual effects I am a geek over practical effects and hope that they never die out. My feelings are the same for classical 2D animation as well. As we dive into the age of technology I hope our roots do not vanish.
I am also an actor, writer, acrobat, dancer, and choreographer. I am a supporter of all arts and enjoy being a part of them. I acted in high school and became a member of the International Thespian Society (Troupe #83). I was the Costume Master for 2 shows, and worked on various other crews during my time there. I was given the honor of choreographing 2 shows: Bye, Bye Birdie and a contemporary version of Romeo and Juliet that was set in the 1980′s. I was the Combat Captain and Choreographer for the Prologue which was set in the style of an 80′s music video. I also had the opportunity to paint a giant Uncle Sam ‘I Want You’ painting for Bye, Bye Birdie as well.
I have written 2 novels and one play. Both are still in the editing process and probably will stay there for quite some time. The Sand Diary (Working Title) is a fantasy/adventure story of a girl who finds an old diary from an old knight that talks about his orders to wipe out an entire race of people in order for the Royal Family to gain power through fear. I made illustrations for that novel and placed them periodically throughout. Mr. Coffe and the Sock Monkey Slippers is a fictional satirical story based off my time in college and all of the existential crises one goes through when growing up. Olga and the Germ Cell Blues is a play I began writing during my chemotherapy for testicular cancer. This comedic play is poking fun at my cancer tumors. I personified them as a newlywed couple that couldn’t hold their marriage together.
I’ve been doing art since I was very young. I’ve always loved to draw and paint and I grew up watching “The Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross. My family always supported my art and I finally began to refine my skills a bit in middle school and further in high school. As a sophomore in high school I dove into the world of digital painting. I was familiar with traditional mediums and wanted a challenge. So I saved up money and got my first tablet. From there I drew and painted like a mad person.
My materials of choice are pencil, charcoal (compressed), colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, markers, ink, acrylic paint, and gouache for traditional pieces and for digital I use Adobe Photoshop. For 3D models I use Maya and am currently self teaching myself ZBrush.
